If you’re new to homeschooling in New York, welcome. If you’re not new but still get that nervous twitch when someone mentions “compliance,” also welcome. You’re not alone…def not alone. In fact, you’re in good company!

Every year, New York homeschoolers are required to submit a document called the IHIP (Individualized Home Instruction Plan). Sounds intense right? It’s not as scary as it sounds…but it can feel like a lot if no one walks you through it.

Let’s fix that.

What’s an IHIP and When Is It Due?

Here’s the short version:

  • After you send your Letter of Intent, your school district will reply.
  • You have 4 weeks from that reply to submit your IHIP.
  • You’ll need to list subjects, curriculum, or resources, and quarterly report dates.

That’s it. But somehow, this part of the law makes even the calmest parents second-guess themselves.

I Made You a Free IHIP Prep Pack

I put together a printable PDF with:

  • A timeline so you don’t miss the deadlines
  • A checklist so you know what’s required (and what’s just busywork that will make your life more difficult)
  • A subject-by-grade guide so you can confidently fill in what your child will be learning, without all the guess work.

This is the exact system I use for my family every year. It’s simple, to the point, and designed to be fun, but give you peace of mind.

That’s it!

Print it. Bookmark it. Use it as a cheat sheet when your brain is fried from life and long division.

You don’t have to know everything. You just need to know where to start. This is the starting point.
